It’s time once again for Pandemic Painting! #25 is a bit of a departure for me, so I’ll try to explain.
I found this photo reference of downtown Nashville, Tennessee in the Sunday Chicago Tribune a couple of years ago and it just looked like something I wanted to paint. Turns out i was right!
A very loose pencil drawing ensued and I decided not to detail it but instead just lay in the colors in little bits and pieces, almost like a mosaic. I went about that with much glazing and darkening of some colors, detailing to some degree with a #1 Winsor & Newton Series 7 brush. (Quite the dandy tool for detail freaks like me.)
But I decided I wanted that “loose” look so I didn’t go crazy with detail. At the end, I came back in with my pencil and added tiny areas of enhancement, but not to take away from the watercolory effect.
Overall, I like the chaos of color. In baseball parlance, I consider this a solid double that I stretched into a triple because the right fielder bobbled the brush…uh, ball.
Hey, hope y’all are staying safe and smart.
