Back again with Pandemic Painting #33. Or, as Black Hawks’ announcer Pat Foley would say, Number Turdy-Tree! Shout-out to Jerry Gilio and Liz Gilio!
This is another view of a previous painting with more hill and less sandy dune. I was able to go all Andy Wyeth on this, starting swishy-swashy and then coming back to dial in the detail.
Winsor & Newton colors on 300# cold press Arches.
My paintings are really acquiring a certain “look” these days, particularly these of the dunes. It’s a partially conscious, partially subconscious (unconscious) decision on my part. I’m liking the look and grooving to the task.
As the weather gets cooler, I’ll be getting on site more. The Michigan City beaches are closed and Indiana Dunes is too freakin’ crowded, so after Labor Day I’ll get out there more.
Hope you all are doing ok; we’re good here.
Be safe and smart!

Ok, THIS one is Pandemic Painting #33!
Like I was sayin’, I’m in a groove with these dunes paintings. They’re turning out pretty much the way I want them to and I’m ok with that.
This is a longer shot of a previous painting. Something about that sentinel tree that I find appealing, I suppose. Been experimenting with various ways to paint grass and I think that will continue.
10″ x 13.25″, W & N watercolors on 300# Arches hot press paper.
Hot press is a smoother surface that makes for finer details but I also like the way little pools of watercolor dry, differently than cold press.
Please stay safe and smart, y’all
