As this is Labor Day Weekend, welcome to my Labor of Love, Pandemic Painting #37.
I have painted this scene a number of times now. As you ride into Marquette Park from Oak Street in my hometown of Miller (Gary), Indiana, this scene is entirely evident. This dune has changed over the years, but I think my photo from a few years ago has provided me with one of my favorite references for the Indiana Dunes. Hence the multiple paintings.
Well, I was going to give you a blah blah blah explanation of explanation and technique here, but suffice to say there’s some swish-swash and some detail and it came together pretty well, I think.
This is a 10.5″ x 14″ work, done with Winsor & Newton (and a bit of Sennelier – I know, blasphemous paint mixer!!!) on 300# Arches hot press paper.
Y’all have a safe and sane holiday weekend.
