A serene Sunday Pandemic Painting #41.
This one was done this past week as a classroom demonstration/exercise/paint-a-long. One day a week I am a watercolor painting instructor at the Arcelor Mittal Learning Center in Burns Harbor.
It’s not so much teaching anymore, as my students have all developed into pretty darn good painters themselves. It’s more like a workshop, as my class consists of returnees who only need gentle nudges from yours truly.
The best part is that we can all discuss our art at the same level and that helps for inspiration. Conversation, planning, execution and critique have gotten as important as swishing colors on paper with a brush.
This 9″ x 12″ piece was done with Winsor & Newton watercolors (still waiting for that endorsement deal…) along with a touch of my Senneliers on 140# Arches cold press. We worked on flat washes, brush dragging for the waves, splatter and long grass strokes with a long-haired striper brush. Merely a base hit in my baseball jargon, but an adequate generic-type painting, I suppose.
Hope y’all are staying safe as we grind out the year. Better times are coming!
