Halloween brings us to the end of Inktober, so I spent probably too much time on this one. With too many pens.
This image and quote is from a Robert E. Howard CONAN story, “Beyond the Black River”. As Howard created the “Sword & Sorcery Heroic Fantasy Whatever You Call It” genre of literature by combining adventure, magic and horror, I’m using these words as appropriate for Halloween.
Conan has confronted the strange monster near the end of the story, whereupon the creature from beyond taunts the Cimmerian with these words. SPOILER ALERT: Conan takes exception and kills the creature.
But I’ve always considered this quote to be among Howard’s most scary – having your image drawn in blood on a white tiger’s hide always gets my hackles up.
Hope your Halloween is hackles free, if you so desire.
Stay safe,
