Heavily inspired by Andrew Wyeth, Pandemic Painting #109 is up for review.
I’ve been doing a lot of detailed work lately (including the sunflower one I’m working on right now), so I thought I’d loosen up and crank out a 30 minute painting.
Most of my dunes paintings are fairly light, airy and detailed, so I took a page out of AW’s book and splashed on a darker load of paint, scrumbled it around, attacked it with a pocket knife and voila!
This method is how Wyeth went about many of his watercolors. He would sometimes take it further with added detail or meticulous dry-brushing, but I’m good with this one for now.
It has inspired me to try this technique more frequently and I think I’ll apply it to some dunes re-paints.
10.5″ x 14.5″ for parameters, Winsor & Newton for paint, Arches 300# rough for paper. I used a Sears Craftsman 40-year old 2-bladed pocket knife for scratching.
Hope y’all have a good week
