Pandemic Painting #112

Being stuck at home in a blizzard can be ok, especially when it results in Pandemic Painting #112.

I decided a summery image would warm us all up. This photo was taken off County Line Road here in Michigan City. Something is fascinating about old rotted out tree trunks, at least to this artist’s eye.
I kept the pencil drawing heavy, as it helped define some of the detail. But I used a series of washes to also help with the detail. There are times when you lay on different (but subtle) colors and just let them paint themselves. In watercolor painting we call them “happy accidents” but it’s ok to try to control those accidents sometimes.

I enjoyed myself very much painting this one. I suppose that’s all I can ask of my artistic endeavors. Too much analysis will spoil the mood, so I hope you enjoy this one too.

13.5″ x 10″. Winsor & Newton watercolours on 140″ Arches cold press paper, with serval touches of a 2B Wolffe’s Carbon Pencil.

Be safe and sane out there, mis amigos y amigas!
