One of the reasons Robert E. Howard was so successful with his Conan stories is that he created a literary genre by combining an adventure story with a horror story, dropped in some magic and Fritz Leiber later named that combo “sword & sorcery”.
The monsters Howard created were usually pretty nasty, none more so than Thog here, first seen in “Xuthal of the Dusk”. Whatever this is almost whipped Conan’s behind.
I figured it was appropriately scary for Halloween.
And always remember, kids: don’t go trick or treating in deserted cities.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
