INKTOBER 2020 DAY 12

This scene is of the same area where the sunflower Pandemic Painting is, only four years later. I took the reference photo last month, somewhat dismayed that there were no sunflowers. But, like milk weed pods, sunflowers are thick in an area one year and non-existent in another.

I used a good ol’.05 Pigma Micron for this one. I found out it was old when it started drying up on me, which doesn’t happen that much with these long-lasting pens.

INKTOBER 2020 DAY 11

This scene is from another pencil sketch in my daily book, done as I sat in my car on a cool day this past spring out on Tryon Road here in M.C.
As I was turning this into an ink drawing, I’m thinking: I need to make a painting of this. So, another one in the pile!

I used a fountain pen for this, an A. G. Spaulding & Brothers brand with a F (fine) nib and cartridge ink. It has a stainless steel body & cap and I believe it is more of a “travel” pen as it is slightly smaller than normal. The stainless body makes it a little slippery to hold but the ink flows very nicely.
My story on this pen: when Cheryl and I were in Poland in 2000, I had a lone 20 Euro bill when were at the airport to come home. This was at the gift shop for 20 Euros, so that’s the story.

Keep safe and sane, my friends!

INKTOBER 2020 DAY 10

This piece is more of a study than a finished drawing.
I did a detailed pencil drawing of this tree that had fallen across Trail Creek here in Michigan City out by Kreuger Middle School. Kind of a Wyeth thing, where he does intense pencil studies before a painting, of which this fallen tree will eventually be.

So, I thought I’d try an ink version and it ended up looking like I was channeling some Jesse Marsh (my all time favorite comic book artist – only a few of my friends will get that…)

Anyway, I have this disposable Pentel Brush Sign Pen with small nylon brush hairs that I brought out. Drawing in ink with a brush is very fluid and can sometimes be tricky with the amount of pressure you use when pulling lines. But it gives a nifty look to it and now I’ll let you get back to your Saturday night.

Stay safe, sane and smart, y’all.

INKTOBER 2020 DAY 9.

In truth, I just cranked this one out tonight to get it done, while talking to my daughter Leah on the phone. It’s a scene that I have previously painted so I scribbled a line drawing here. A tad lazy tonight.

Pen of choice: a Pentel TRADIO Stylo TRJ50 0G with a heavier flexible point. More of a writing pen than a drawing one, but it glides nicely and it has replacement cartridges that almost make it a fountain pen.

OK to be lazy now and then – just stay safe, y’all.
Happy birthday, John Lennon. See Less
