Pandemic Painting #59

From a photo by my friend Janet Baines, here is
Pandemic Painting #59.

I haven’t done a whole lot of wildlife or bird paintings, but I like it when I do. This cardinal is a reminder of spring for me, even more so than a robin and despite the fact that cardinals stay here in NW Indiana all year. That intense red of the male cardinal is quite the challenge for a watercolor painter – maybe that’s why I don’t do more wildlife. (Plus, I want to make it look EXACTLY like the creature, so there’s that.)

Good ol’ Winsor and Newton color on good ol’ Arches 300# hot press paper makes for a good ol’ 9″ x 13″ painting.

Keep well and be safe, everyone.
