Recovering from 3 feet of snow by making art is a pretty good way to soothe one’s savage breast…or the feeling of having nothing to compete with Mother Nature’s fury!
We survived just fine and drawing cartoons and painting watercolors is my go-to survival skill!

I experimented on this scene with scratching grasses out of wet paint with my trusty Craftsman 95024 Pocket Knife. My attempts to emulate Andrew Wyeth’s marvelous scratching technique failed miserably, but I’m always learning when attempting this watercolor stuff. Again here I only slightly used a reference photo, changing around some elements while playing with techniques.
I’ve finally used up the Canson paper that I have, this one being the hot press Illustration Artboard. A smooth surface makes the knife blade slice easier across the wet surface.
Good ol’ Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolours served me well on this 8″ x 11″ piece.

Hope your day is serving you well. Go Lions, get better Rusty Burke and always remember: Endeavor to Persevere!
