I was totally out of my comfort zone doing this piece, but I like to think I was up for a challenge. I’ve been doing that more lately with 30 minute paintings, so I’ll add this to the pile.
Last weekend Cheryl and I went down to Washington Park on Lake Michigan here in Michigan City to view the Northern Lights. They were visible to the naked eye, undulating in the northern sky, under the overhead watch of the Big Dipper. I took a mental picture and drew a sketch when I got home.
I did this 12″ x16″ piece on heavy 300# Arches cold press with my Winsor & Newton watercolours, washing then dry brushing the aspect of the lights, working in some color just to give it some life. The crescent moon was done with a gel pen.
More ongoing experimentation with my favorite painting medium.
