JUL-19

July 19th, 2026

OK, a little more back on track tonight with this one.

This scene from the West Beach section of the Indiana Dunes National Park is less than a mile from where I grew up in the Miller section of Gary, Indiana. I literally stomped these dunes when I was a kid and those memories of that stomping are among the best I have.

To expound upon my experimenting comment last evening, I did this 5.5″ x 8.5″ piece with just one brush: a wonky old hog bristled fan brush, which I have made more wonky by trimming some of the bristles as to give it a jagged profile.
A switch to Arches 140# hot press paper seemed to help my Winsor & Newton watercolours out as well.

Not looking forward to another Smokey Sunday, but I know the air filtration system at the casino is top notch, so I’ll muddle through somehow.
Here’s hoping your muddling is good, too.
