And now for something mostly sort of almost completely different, I present Pandemic Painting #72.
Well, a little bit different, maybe – this is still a watercolor but done in gouache, which is opaque watercolor.
In the past, I’ve added a touch of gouache to several of my transparent watercolor paintings, as its opacity makes for nice light over dark effects when needed.
I’m going to get a better quality gouache to use; the paint I used here is cheap and it came in colors mostly not in my palette.
But I like the quality of the painting, the physical application of the paint. I can still begin with a somewhat washy technique and then build with more solid colors, not having to rely on the white of the paper to make my white areas. The clouds and the waves, for example, are done with white paint.
I’ve got stuff to learn about this, so I’ll have some fun.
9″ x 14″, done with El Cheapo gouache on 140# Arches cold press.
