Time for a late night Pandemic Painting #69. My watercolor class was today, so I’m catching up later on here.
This painting was on paper as a drawing for about six months. I had it in my “to do” pile but just couldn’t work up the gumption to get it started. I took the photo for it last spring, finally drew it out and then let it sit. No real reason, I guess.
And then when I finally started in on it – bingo bango bongo – I really cranked it out. I decided upon an ethereal background to highlight the intense detail and really loaded up on pigment for this one. Winsor & Newton sepia really intensified the burnt umber and yellow ochre and a lot of dry-brushing did the trick. I also enhanced it a bit with a Wolff’s Carbon Pencil. I used Strathmore cold press 140# paper for this and it surprisingly stayed nice and flat at 11.25″ x 17.5″.
Got 3 in the hopper right now, so #70 should hit the ether sometime soon. So, I’d better GET TO DA HOPPER!
