Here’s Pandemic Painting #64, one I’ve had ready to post for a couple of days.
I like the back story on this one, because it involves ancient history. Well, if the mid-1970’s are ancient… The scene here is from my time living in Rolling Prairie, Indiana and this is a repaint from a photo I had of the original painting.
The principal of the Rolling Prairie Elementary School in 1976 commissioned this one from me. He wanted a scene from RP to hang in the school (where it still may reside, but as a white-haired senior citizen, I’m not about to show up there some day just to “look around” for it). I chose this old building that was along one of the many country roads around Rolling; I was told it used to be a roadside farmer’s produce stand. Anyway, it is long gone, so I’m glad I preserved it in some way.
Back in those times of ancient history, my process sometimes included me sitting outside, actually drawing the scene onto my paper and then painting it in my studio. I did that a lot for my work in the 70’s, pretending to be Andrew Wyeth. I used Strathmore 5-ply cold press Bristol board then with mostly Grumbacher Academy paint. Good memories, there.
Today it is Winsor & Newton paint on Arches 140# cold press to create an 8.25″ x 13.5″ image.
Hope your day is well and happy.
